Widows Need To Get Out

A widow can find it hard to get out on her own after years of being part of a couple.  They don’t know what they would enjoy doing in their community and so often just stay home.

Below is June’s “Walk n’ Talk” with our local author David Goss,  people of all ages enjoy going on his walks.  Every community has events that are open to people of all ages and aren’t just for couples.  Call your community center, newspapers and ask around to see what catches your attention.  Don’t let the summer go by without making an effort to get out of the house to meet some new people.

We will travel our personal grief journey, but it comes easier when shared with other people and a little exercise.

Walks n’ Talks with David Goss

This series of community explorations began in 1978 under sponsorship of the Saint John Recreation Department and has been conducted privately by its leader, David Goss since 1996. This year, all the walks, with one exception, are sponsored and are FREE. Thousands of Saint Johners, and visitors to Saint John, have enjoyed the opportunity to see and learn about parts of the community that they might otherwise not be acquainted with over the years. To mark the 35th anniversary of the program, the usual Tuesday night routine has been expanded, so carefully note dates, times, cancellation procedures, meeting places. Walkers should be comfortable doing a 1.5 hour, 2-3 km stroll and come prepared for cold or wet conditions as it is not always possible to have a rain date, or to predict the weather accurately. All walkers participate at their own risk. RD=RAIN DATE. The walk will be held the next night if it is raining at 6:00 p.m. on the scheduled date. Call 672-8601 for recorded message if in doubt or for program questions, or use gosswalk@nbnet.nb.ca.
