Widowed Means Being Single

Stop thinking, “What if?”  You may feel a great sadness, anger or self-doubt as a single woman, but each day is still a gift and it’s up to you to create your own joy.

Learn the difference between being alone and being lonely.  It is a big mistake to look to others to make you happy or to fill your need for companionship.

If you worry that you aren’t being nice by disagreeing with someone, then you’re not taking control of your life. One of the things you need to learn is how to disagree without being disagreeable.  Making new friends will help to fill your time so you aren’t so lonely.

If you feel unsatisfied with your life as a single person, then consider that it may be you.  We spend so much of our lives focusing on all the things outside of ourselves that we end up feeling lost and confused.

In order to understand this new life, you need to get to know your inner self.  Writing in a journal is a good start to learning who you are.  Decide today that you will focus your attention on things that you do control and qualities that you want to develop.

Going from wife to widow is not an easy transfer.  Being single when it’s not by choice takes control out of our hands.  Start to take control back and soon you will realize that being single does not mean that you have to be lonely.

So true. I am learning this. I have had more than my share of making my life over. From becoming a single mother due to my husband’ abandonment, due to his drinking and drugging. Divorced and on my own, working 3 part time jobs to keep food on the table. Then finally after years of singleness, I met a wonderful man who restored my faith that decent men do exist. Finding love and friendship for the first time in my life. He passed away 2 months before our wedding date. So I am alone again, missing him, but cherishing my memories and living my life with my children and grandchildren. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions as I have learned to be content and happy in my own skin.
