Focus on what you still have and build on your strengths to be the best you that you can possibly be.
As a widow it’s easy to spend your time longing for the past and that’s all part of your grieving journey. But healing comes when you adapt to the changes forced on you. It all starts by removing limitations from your mindset. Begin to believe that anything is possible.
Look for ways to help others by going the extra mile, for no other reason than you want to make their day. The surprise is that in doing so your own life will expand and grow.
Problems and challenges are inevitable. Cultivating a positive perspective is vital to building a full life as a widow.
- Listen to upbeat music or watch motivational shows.
- Eliminate negative words in your self-talk.
- Spend time with positive people – optimism is contagious.
- Challenge yourself to look for the good in everyone.
How many times do you find yourself quitting (mentally, emotionally and physically), when you should be pushing on through your grief to healing?
Adding value to the lives of others is a great way to be the best you. You’re only human and grief can beat you down. No one person can be everything to everyone so set your priorities. Widows that push on are able to visualize what they want and work to achieve their goals.
Ask the hard question – “What was I created to be and to do with my life?” Expect setbacks, roadblocks and challenges along your grief journey. At some point you have to just push on and give it your best.
Dr. Victor E. Frankly says, “The last of the human freedoms – To choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances is to choose one’s own way.”
Write out all your worries and fears. Look around you, are any of them directly in your path? No, then let them go. Embracing new experiences is like a super charge to your brain, spurring the growth of new neurons. New experiences require an insatiable curiosity and a positive attitude that will keep you active, engaged and inspired. You will experience increased confidence, satisfaction and joy when you are the best you.
