Have you ever watched the TV show “Touched By An Angel”? It was one of the rare shows that I would watch every week because it made me feel good about life and gave me hope for the future.
Della Reese is a woman of strong faith because she was saved by God twice: once when she was seriously injured in an accident and once when a blood vessel ruptured in her brain. Those experiences and others taught Della to never doubt what God could do. Della says, “I have advice for people going through hard times, good times, or whatever times. God is good all the time, so trust him”.
More than 300 studies have found that people of faith are healthier than non-believers. Having faith can also speed recovery from physical and mental illness, surgery and addictions.
Dale A. Matthews, M.D., associate professor of medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. believes that there are a lot of reasons why faith heals:
- The body responds to the positive feelings created by faith.
- Religious people tend to take better care of themselves.
- Being part of a faith community gives a feeling of connection.
- People of faith tend to look at what they have to be grateful for.
- Faith produces peacefulness and that reduces stress.
I’m not suggesting that you go to church or turn to religion. I’m just suggesting that you be open to the idea of religion, faith and spirituality. Ask yourself, “Have I really given faith a chance?”
Sometimes when we are at our lowest, faith is the only thing that has the power to pull us out of our grief and give us a reason to keep going.
