After the loss of a loved one, we want to do something - anything - to dull our pain.
Falling into the harmful habits of alcohol and drug abuse, oversleeping, T.V. overuse and not socializing threatens your well-being and blocks you from healing.
You cannot heal without first confronting your grief. Ignoring the pain caused by your loss or sedating yourself with distractions will only work for a while. No matter how fast you run from your grief, it will always be there waiting for you. Confront your loss and allow yourself to grieve in other ways that are more natural and healthy.
It's okay to cry, scream and be angry - once you acknowledge your pain you will be able to start the healing part of your journey. You can't face what you don't first acknowledge. Acknowledging your pain is the first step you need to take on your grief journey.
