For current ways to connect with Mary’s work, you can:
Widow advisors are important as we grieve and heal. We don’t have our husbands to talk things over with and so we need advisors that we can trust.
- Do you have enough monthly cash to cover your expenses?
- Do you have someone to do the maintenance needed?
- Is a financial advisor helping you with future planning?
- Widows need legal advice for Wills and End of Life plans.
The media is full of stories about scammers so don’t get your financial advice from the local fortune teller. Get the correct professional advisor for each of your needs.
Advisors need to understand that many widows fear running out of money and they need to be sympathetic to our fears. You may have been independent in your marriage and so you didn’t fall apart due to making all the financial decisions, but the finality of their death can still overwhelm you.
This is where your need will be for other types of advisors. People in your life that care about you and are willing to be there for the long haul. People who will let you grieve at your own pace and who will listen to you speaking about how you are feeling, even if you are repeating yourself.
- A lifelong friend – advisor as you do some serious soul searching.
- A fitness advisor – gets you to face the truth about your health.
- An older mentor – this advisor has the wisdom that comes with age.
- Male friend – a platonic friend that you can be open and real with. His insight will be especially helpful when you’re faced with making difficult decisions.
We want, no need, a nudge towards a little piece of happiness to open our hearts again and that is where our advisors come in. You will change in many ways as you travel your own personal grief journey. Eventually, with the help of your advisors, you will create a life that has meaning.
Although your sadness will always be part of your journey, your broken heart can and will heal.
