Widows Travelling Single - It’s been years since my husband’s death and I’ve travelled a lot. As a widow I’ve found that the success of my travels is almost always directly linked to the friends I spend time with while I’m away from home.
It doesn’t matter if you get a flat tire, your bags are lost by the airport, family gets the flu at home or your credit card is cancelled as long as you’re travelling with someone that can laugh at your adventures with you.
I just got back from a winter in Barbados with a great group of ladies. The trip had its bumps in the road but somehow it all worked out because we had the support of each other. We laughed, we cried and we danced away our frustrations. It was a great time with friends as we swam at Miami Beach and counted our blessing to be out of our cold Canadian winter weather.
Don’t let being a widow stop you from travelling. Reach out to friends and family to see who is a good personality match to travel with. Base your trip on who you will be spending time with, not on how good a package you get. I know many ladies that have had an amazing trip and some that did not because of who they had with them.
Now the good weather is starting and you may be tempted to take a summer trip or you may be tempted to make excuses and stay home. Yes, you can stay in your comfort zone but please don't. Instead get out of your house, even if its a bus trip for a day. It really doesn't matter what kind of trip: short or long, cheap or expensive – be fussy about who you share your time with.
